Any application to a college or university requires an O-level certificate. For those requesting financial assistance through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), the documents remain a useful tool for loan processing. 1. Fill KNEC certificate replacement form
Log into the KNEC website and download certificate replacement forms. You can also go to the KNEC Archives and Records offices to physically fill this document. Fill personal data and attach the following supporting documents:
- Copy of the certificate/ result slip,
- Letter of completion/ recommendation letter from a school
- Sworn legal affidavit
- Police abstract indicating loss of certificate
- Identity Card (ID)/ passport or birth certificate
- KNEC bank deposit slip
2. Pay the processing fee
You are required to deposit a facilitation fee of Ksh. 5,000 + 16% Vat, which totals to Ksh. 5,800. The KNEC accounts are as follows:
- Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB)
- Equity Bank
- Co-operative Bank of Kenya
- National Bank of Kenya
You can find the KNEC bank slips in either of the banks mentioned above. The bank slip should be attached as proof of payment while submitting the form.
3. Submit the application form
After filling the form, countercheck to confirm that the details provided are accurate. Then send the documents in a sealed envelope to:

4. Waiting period
Once you complete the paperwork to replace a lost KCSE and KCPE certificate, you are expected to wait for sixty working days to collect the new documents. Similarly, the certificates can only be collected from the KNEC offices.
Upon arrival at the office premises, applicants must present an authentic ID. Parents and guardians must accompany minors where birth certificates and original ID must be presented. To know your application’s status, you can log in to the KNEC Query Management Information System (QMIS).
Replaced certificates must be collected within two years of application. Inability to do so will result in the document being disposed off without consultation.
KNEC stops replacement of lost certificates
The demand for replacing lost or damaged 0-level certificates has been on the rise with suspicious applications being made by students. This trend has prompted KNEC to stop issuance of these papers.
In a statement issued to the press in April 2017, the body’s representative Mr. Mohamud Ibrahim announced that the body was encountering some challenges and would stop replacing certificates.
The move left many citizens stranded, but all hope is not lost. KNEC is now facilitating provision for confirming certificates at a Ksh. 2,320 charge. Applicants should note that this service is available only at the New Mitihani House in South C.

How to get KCSE certificate online
