Under the supervision and coordination of the Nutrition Project Coordinator, the Project Officer (Nutrition) will be responsible for the successful management and implementation of the nutrition component of Healthy Choices program, an integrated livelihoods, and nutrition and child protection project implemented in Shwe Pyi Thar Township. The program aims at improving the capacities to ensure adequate health and nutrition for women of reproductive age (WRA) and their children during the first 1000 days through sustained access to decent work, improved nutrition behaviours, and reduced risk from water borne and communicable diseases.

The nurtrition component aims to contribute towards reduced stunting in children 0-23 months and reduced maternal and adolescent malnutrition in project implementation areas through improving Infact and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) and nutrition practices in target areas.

Nutrition Project Officer will supervise the day-to-day implementation of the community-based activities with PLWs and with owners of food outlets. S/he will provide coaching and mentoring of implementing partner’s staff and s/he will build capacity of partner staff, so they can support the Community Nutrtion Counsellors effectively. S/he will support to partner staffs in liaise with ward level authority and will also closely work with other POs, PC and program manager in advocacy work at the township level.

She /He will have responsibility for planning and implementing the activities to improve nutrition status through effective mobilisation at the community level through basic health workers, volunteers and community networks.

Key accountabilities

Program Delivery:

  • Support in conducting baselin/endline and other surveys at the field level to engage with community and other stakeholder,
  • Mobilization of community members to nurture good practices for appropriate nutrition during the first 1000 days period, support referral links, in line with agreed work plan.
  • Collaborate with relevant Basic Health Staff (BHS) and volunteers to support community/ward level IMAM component as necessary and refer to respect centers under the guidance of the Project Coordinator.
  • Responsible to implement SBCC activities which create enabling environment for mothers to mother support groups and fathers to father support groups to practice optimal Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices.
  • Supervise Project Assistants in effective community mobilization for SBCC activities, and the facilitation of the community-based project activities.

  • Support the Project Assistants and directly conduct trainings of community/ward level nutrition volunteers and peer mothers/fathers through quality monitoring support and feedbacks.
  • Supervise and manage the assign team for the data collection, selection of beneficiaries for MCCT (Maternal and Child Cash Tranfer), monitor the cash withdraw status and solve the complains as necessary and conduct regular Post Distribution Monitoring.
  • Assist and facilitate capacity building workshops, awareness sessions, review meetings and training sessions for variety of stakeholders.
  • In coordination with the MEAL staffs, monitor and document the progress of project activities in geographic area/s of assignment.
  • In coordination with other Project Officers and Project Coordinator, support the preparation of the sector work plan and budget forecasts.
  • Ensure that project resources for specific location are used optimally and that expenditures comply with internal controls set by the Finance/Grants Units.
  • Contribute to the preparation of internal and external reporting.
  • Build the capacity of the Project Assistants and Commuity Development facilitators with the technical support of TA and Project Coordinator.
  • Ensure staff are assisted and equipped to regularly monitor their work collecting quantitative and qualitative data for both process and impact.
  • Lead in mapping of healthy food vendors around workplaces and in communities, provide training of safe food production and support marketing to wome of reproductive age.
  • Support TA and Project Coordinator in the process of developing, concept testing and piloting communication materirals in consultation with MoH, Alive and Thrive and other partners and in developing the Social marketing campaign, Healthy Choices Campaign.

Program Management

  • Monitor and document the progress of project activities in geographic area/s of assignment
  • Prepare and submit reports on each activities
  • Supervise project assistants and assist partner staffs in the implementation of their functions and provide technical support as needed
  • Carry out other tasks assigned by the supervisors as required.
  • Implement project activities in accordance with the detailed implementation plans and budgets.
  • Provide to the Project Coordinator (PC) sound explanations for any significant variance (beyond SCI-accepted limits) from work plan and budget plan, together with proposed actions to remedy this situation.
  • Effective coordination with the other sectors programmes (Livelihood, Child Protection), Partner organizations and other UN, INGOs, which are implementing in the same funding and same area.
  • Cooperate with partner organizations in planning, budgeting and implementation of their activities and provide support as required

  • Ensure that project related information is relayed to the Program Coordinators and other Project Officers.
  • Assist Project Coordinator in maintaining program documents and coordinating with all departments.
  • Ensure that project related information are relayed to other Project Officers
  • Prepare communication materials to partners/communities within implementation area.
  • Work with team to ensure the information relating to Save the Children and our activities are shared widely within communities, among partner organizations and other sectors integrated in this project in which we are working and provide for their participation and feedback in line with relevant guidelines and frameworks.
  • Ensure that project related information are relayed to the partners.


  • Prepare periodic work plans with supervisor in a timely manner
  • Keep records of activities and report periodically on program progress with recommendations in a timely manner
  • Child Safeguarding Responsibilities
  • Ensure that staff is providing all beneficiaries of your programme with ongoing, age-appropriate verbal or written information in relevant languages about Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.

  • Degree in nutrition, health, social sciences or other relevant field.
  • More than 3 years thematic experience in development programming (Nutrition programmes is preferred).
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in Nutrition programm; Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) , Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices,Maternal and Child Cash Transfers(MCCT)
  • Professional working experience with international organizations preferable
  • Proven team working ability
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach staff and working with community members
  • Strong interpersonal and community development skills
  • Cooperate with partner organizations
  • Excellent personal organisational skills, including time management, and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Good Significant people management skills/experience and proven ability to create an environment which encourages team-working and motivates a team across various geographical areas.
