UNEP FI’s Impact & SDG workstream is an integral part of its efforts to fulfill its mission to \”identify, promote, and realise the adoption of best environmental and sustainability practice at all levels of financial institution operations\”. By developing a common understanding of what constitutes positive impact finance and working with members, their clients and with public partiers on the development of new business and financing models the workstream is a central contribution to the mobilisation of mainstream finance for sustainability goals. The duration of the contract is for 12 months. Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is a strategic partnership between UNEP and the global financial sector. UNEP FI works with approximately 400 financial institutions and a range of partners and organisations, to understand the linkages between sustainability issues and finance and to promote sustainable finance internationally.
Impact & SDGs is one of UNEP FI’s thematic focus areas. Its ultimate focus is on bridging the funding gap for sustainable development and the achievement of the SDGs. To achieve this a new, impact-based approach to business models, based on a holistic consideration of the three pillars of sustainable development is required. The Impact & SDG work stream is responsible for UNEP FI’s impact protocol and works with the industry commissions and the other thematic streams, as well as a range of external partners, to normalize and roll-out impact analysis and management in mainstream finance. UNEP FI needs a Content Manager to manage its Impact Protocol.
The final result of the consultant’s work will be the successful management of UNEP FI Holistic Impact Protocol.
• Test version of V3 of the Portfolio Impact Analysis Tool for Banks
• Test version Corporate Impact Analysis Tool
• Introductory support sessions delivered & Workshops supported across a subset of target regions.
• Final version of V3 of the Portfolio Impact Analysis Tool for Banks
• Final version of the Corporate Impact Analysis Tool
• Implementation support sessions delivered covering all the modules & Workshops supported across target regions.
Specific tasks and responsibilities:
UNEP FI requires a Content Management Consultant to:
(i) Manage the Working Groups set up for the on-going development of UNEP FI’s Holistic Impact methodology and tools, work plan development, meeting preparations and discussions.
(ii) Together with the Banking Team, manage and deliver the implementation support programme for Principles of Responsible Banking (PRB) members on impact analysis & target-setting; webinars, workshops, info sessions and bilaterally addressing member inquiries.
(iii) Lead and implement the development of the new iterations of the Portfolio Impact Analysis Tool and the Corporate Impact Analysis Tool, mock-ups, coding and testing, technical specifications.
(iv) Coordinate with and support the rest of the Impact & SDG Team (other consultants, and also interns) as appropriate, namely as regards the updates to the Protocol impact definitions and mappings.
(v) Work with UNEP FI’s partners and counterparties in the Impact Management Platform (IMP) to create interoperability mechanisms between the UNEP FI Protocol and tools and their resources, as well as to support relevant R&D efforts, in particular as regards industry classifications and the exploration of new digital solutions.
(vii) Support the Impact & SDG Programme Lead with related tasks as appropriate and participate in UNEP FI Team meetings and activities as appropriate.
The Consultant will be reporting to the Head of UNEP FI and the UNEP FI Impact & SDGs Programme Lead. Qualifications/special skills
Skills & knowledge – Familiarity and solid understanding of the sustainable business and sustainable finance agenda, including the main standards, norms, frameworks and players that currently define this field. Familiarity with the main approaches to impact measurement and management. Excellent analytical skills and capacity to understand complex / multi-facetted issues. Quick learner and motivated self-starter who enjoys working in a highly collaborative and international environment. Good interpersonal skills. IT – Advanced skills in Excel required.
Academic Qualifications: Masters’ Degree involving a combination of the following areas: finance, business administration, environmental / sustainable development studies, economics, international relations.
Experience: At least 2 years of relevant experience involving private sector networks, international relations and sustainability issues, preferably involving technical and analytical responsibilities.
Language: English is a working language of UNEP FI. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is an asset.
